Élites

E il premio sperato, promesso a quei forti,
All’opere imbelli dell’arse officine,
Ai solchi bagnati di servo sudor.
Il forte si mesce col vinto nemico,
Col novo signore rimane l’antico;

quale venne pubblicato vivente l’autore,
in obbedienza ai voleri della Censura austriaca.

Dagli atrii muscosi, dai Fori cadenti,
Dai boschi, dall’arse fucine stridenti,
Dai solchi bagnati di servo sudor,
Un volgo disperso repente si desta;
Intende l’orecchio, solleva la testa
Percosso da novo crescente romor.

Dai guardi dubbiosi, dai pavidi volti,

Sul suol che i trionfi degli avi portò;
Che, in torbida voce, qual gregge predato,
Dall’Erulo avaro nel Goto spietato,
Nel Vinnulo errante, dal Greco passò.

S’aduna voglioso, si sperde tremante,
Per torti sentieri, con passo vagante,
Era tema e desire, s’avanza e ristà;
E adocchia e rimira scorata e confusa

Ansanti li vede, quai trepide fere,
Irsuti per tema le fulve criniere,
Le note latebre del covo cercar;
E quivi, deposta l’usata minaccia,
Le donne superbe, con pallida faccia,
I figli pensosi pensose guatar.

E sopra i fuggenti, con avido brando,
Quai cani disciolti, correndo, frugando,
Da ritta, da manca, guerrieri venir:
Li vede, e rapito d’ignoto contento,
Con l’agile speme precorre l’evento,
E sogna la fine del duro servir.

Udite! Quei forti che tengono il campo,
Che ai vostri tiranni precludon lo scampo,
Son giunti da lunge, per aspri sentier:
Sospeser le gioie dei prandi festosi,
Assursero in fretta dai blandi riposi,
Chiamati repente da squillo guerrier.

Lasciar nelle sale del tetto natio
Le donne accorate, tornanti all’addio,

Membrando i fidati colloqui d’amor.

Gli oscuri perigli di stanze incresciose,
Per greppi senz’orma le corse affannose,
Il rigido impero, le fami durar:
Si vider le lance calate sui petti,
A canto agli scudi, rasente agli elmetti,
Udiron le freccie fischiando volar.

E il premio sperato, promesso a quei forti,
Un motto dal labbro dei forti bastava;

All’opere imbelli dell’arse officine,
Ai solchi bagnati di servo sudor.
Stringetevi insieme l’oppresso all’oppresso,

Labyrinth of Dreams

Down a long-forgotten path,
Woodland nymphs and fairies dwell
Within a secret sanctuary,
Untouched by Queen Sinistra's spell -
The mystic Labyrinth of Dreams
Lies beyond their ancient gate,
And deep within this endless maze,
A hidden treasure lies in wait -
For at the very heart and centre,
Lies the fabled Crystal Key -
But all who dare to seek this prize
Are lost for eternity -
This hidden key must be retrieved
To break the spell of endless gloom -
Yet none who enter have returned
From deep within this maze of doom -

At the end of the journey

It seems I'm at the end of the path, the centre and end of the Labyrinth. And there's nothing here. Just an empty and bare dead end, where the wintery wind piled up few dead leaves, useless memories of the days past. Standing in front of this plain wall I stay, the passage toll spent or lost, worn along the journey.

We gave them dreams, and what did they dream?

Can you see the fire in their eyes?
Can you hear the anguish in their cries?
Can you see the beauty in their art?
Can you sense the love within their hearts?
I can taste the freedom we once had

(Tom Englund:)
We have to teach them all that we know
Their evolution moves far too slow
Expand their minds and reject compliance
Upgrade their knowledge, upload our science

(Steve Lee:)
This revolution will lead to their demise
We should not make the same mistake twice
We're kept alive by artificial means
But lost our souls to a world of machines

(Jørn Lande:) Listen to the warning…

(Tom Englund:)
We need to teach them to fight disease
They seem so helpless and need our expertise
I see them dying all across the globe
Their greatest foe is but a small microbe

(Steve Lee:)
This sudden change leads to overpopulation
Shifting the balance, destructive habitation
Killing a live, biological invasion
Consuming Earth by ruthless exploitation

(Jørn Lande:) Can you see the fire in their eyes?
(Bob Catley:) Can you hear the anguish in their cries?
(Jørn Lande:) Can you see the beauty in their eyes?
(Bob Catley:) Can you sense the love within their hearts?
(Jørn Lande:) I can taste the freedom we once had
(Bob Catley:) I can touch their pain when they feel sad
(Jørn Lande:) I can smell the fragrance of the air
(Bob Catley:) I remember times we used to share

(Hansi Kürsch:)
Don't want to live in a world that's dying
I'd rather die in a world that's living!

(Jørn Lande:) Listen to the warning…

"Before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental self-destruction" (JFK)
"Humankind has acquired a collective power and ability to dramatically alter the environment of the entire planet" (Al Gore)
"This will not be another Vietnam" (George Bush)
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" (Franklin Delano Roosevelt)
"Our task is not only to win the battle but to win the war" (Winston Churchill)

(Bob Catley:) We gave them feelings, what did they sense?
(Steve Lee:) Shut out the world and put up a fence...
(Bob Catley:) We gave them science, what did they do?
(Steve Lee:) They built a bomb and they used it too...
(Bob Catley:) We gave them reason what did they learn?
(Steve Lee:) Warmed up the planet and made it burn...
(Bob Catley:) We gave them art, and what did they make?
(Steve Lee:) Nuclear weapons for their own sake...
(Bob Catley:) We gave them insight, what did they see?
(Steve Lee:) Degrade the noble, enslave the free...
(Bob Catley:) We gave them wisdom, what did they teach?
(Steve Lee:) Destroying all that's within their reach...
(Bob Catley:) We gave them language, what did they say?
(Steve Lee:) They left the planet in disarray...
(Bob Catley And Steve Lee:) We gave them dreams, and what did they dream?

(Hansi Kürsch:)
Don't want to live in a world that's dying
I'd rather die in a world that's living!

(Jørn Lande:)
Listen to the warning…

(Jonas Renkse:)
A chain of guilt around our neck
A planet straying in darkness
Can we save the lives we wrecked?
I say we should find a way
I say stop this decay

(Jørn Lande:) Can you see the fire in their eyes?
(Bob Catley:) Can you hear the anguish in their cries?
(Jørn Lande:) Can you see the beauty in their art?
(Bob Catley:) Can you sense the love within their hearts?
(Jørn Lande:) I can taste the freedom we once had (Freedom, freedom)
(Bob Catley:) I can touch their pain (Oh, can you feel the fire?)
(Jørn Lande:) I can smell the fragrance of the air
(Bob Catley:) I relive the times we used to share (Yeah)

(Jørn Lande:) Can you see the fire in their eyes? (Oh!)
(Bob Catley:) Can you hear the anguish in their cries? (Can you feel the fire?)
(Jørn Lande:) Can you see the beauty in their art?
(Bob Catley:) Can you sense the love within their hearts? (Can you feel the beauty?)

(Hansi Kürsch:) Don't want to live in a world that's dying!
(Jørn Lande:) Oh yeah, so beautiful!
(Hansi Kürsch:) I'd rather die in a world that's living! (Yeah, yeah!)

Stalker - or how to get out of the Labyrinth and be happy

No automatic alt text available.

Just out of the Labyrinth we can be happy. But only who is happy can find the Labyrinth's exit.

Stalker is a movie by Andrej Tarkovsky based on the novel Roadside Picnic, written by the brothers Arkadiy and Boris Strugackiy. As it often happens the two works have very little in common. In this case, just the background and the stalker figure, a person who hunts stealthily. The background is a planet Earth visited by some aliens, who came, stayed shortly, and left. Without paying attention to the humankind and littering the land, as we do so often when we stop for a picnic along the road. The stalkers, poachers and smugglers at the same time, get into these littered areas, where access is forbidden and your life is at risk at any step, looking for alien artefacts to sell at the black market, defying the army and the mortal traps spread everywhere along the path. A path coiling on itself, like the path of a Labyrinth, till its end, where the most valuable treasure is, the Golden Sphere. Which is capable, according to who almost got to it, to grant any wish to who gets it first. While the movie is mainly introspective and in slow motion, the novel leaves room for action and the pursuing of the treasure at the centre of the Labyrinth. But one more trap blocks the access to the Golden Sphere, the Grinder, which can't be avoided. There's only a system to pass beyond it, and that's to keep it busy with a victim. The novel's main character fetches a youngster with him, the son of a colleague, and once on sight of the Golden Sphere let him go first. Then, while the Grinder shreds the body of his young journey fellow, he slips through and gets to the treasure, forgetting all his desires, only able to think over and over again "Happiness! Happiness for all!" The same is to get out of the Labyrinth, there's the need of a sacrificial victim to busy the Grinder. But while we slip through the exit we don't think about other people's happiness. We just think about our own happiness.

No automatic alt text available.

Pet therapy, human therapy

You love animals because you all are egoists. You adore your dog because it loves you unconditionally, because it doesn't demand you change your shitty character, because it doesn't ask any effort to improve yourselves. Your dog loves you with all your defects, those defects which made other people hate you. Your dog doesn't betray you as people have betrayed you. And as you have betrayed people. Or do you think yourselves better than your neighbours, you who refuse to change anything in yourselves not even to help your own kind? You love your dog because all the commitment you need to put in it is the same you need for attending a fucking yoga course.

In the temple of love

In the temple of love you hide together
Believing pain and fear outside

With the fire from the fireworks up above me
With a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain at hand
You run for cover in the temple of love
You run for another but still the same
For the wind will blow my name across this land

In the temple of love you hide together
Believing pain and fear outside
But someone near you rides the weather
And the tears he cried will rain on walls
As wide as lovers eyes

In the temple of love: Shine like thunder
In the temple of love: Cry like rain
In the temple of love: Hear my calling
In the temple of love: Hear my name

And the devil in black dress watches over
My guardian angel walks away
Life is short and love is always over in the morning
Black wind come carry me far away

With the sunlight died and night above me
With a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain inside

You run for cover in the temple of love
You run for another it's all the same
For the wind will blow and throw your walls aside
With the fire from the fireworks up above
With a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain

You run for cover in the temple of love
I shine like thunder cry like rain
And the temple grows old and strong
But the wind blows longer cold and long
And the temple of love will fall before
This black wind calls my name to you no more

In the black sky thunder sweeping
Underground and over water
Sounds of crying weeping will not save
Your faith for bricks and dreams for mortar
All your prayers must seem as nothing
Ninety-six below the wave
When stone is dust and only air remains

In the temple of love: Shine like thunder
In the temple of love: Cry like rain
In the temple of love: Hear the calling
And the temple of love is falling
Down

In the temple of love: Shine like thunder
In the temple of love: Cry like rain
In the temple of love: Hear my calling
In the temple of love: Hear my name

In the black sky thunder sweeping
Underground and over water
Sounds of crying weeping will not save
Your faith for bricks and dreams for mortar
All your prayers must seem as nothing
Ninety-six below the wave
When stone is dust and only air remains
the only haven you can trust

And the devil in black dress watches over
My guardian angel walks away
Life is short and love is always over in the morning
Black wind come carry me far away

With the fire from the fireworks up above
With a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain you

You run for cover in the temple of love
I shine like thunder cry like rain
And the temple grows old and strong
But the wind blows longer cold and long
And the temple of love will fall before
This black wind calls my name to you no more

In the temple of love you hide together

In the temple of love: Shine like thunder
In the temple of love: Cry like rain
In the temple of love: Hear the calling
